Teen Sailor Found Safe in Indian Ocean

Three ships have been dispatched to rescue Abigail Sunderland, a 16-year old sailor who sent a distress signal Thursday while 2,000 miles off the coast of South Africa. Sunderland was half-way through her journey to Australia when the mast of her yacht broke in rough seas.

YouTube user ronkilgore1070 has video of Sunderland in December setting out from Marina del Rey, California on her journey around the world. She was attempting to beat a record set by her brother at age 17 and become the youngest person to sail around the world. As the BBC reports, she gave up the goal after stopping in April at Cape Town, South Africa, for repairs to her boat, but decided to continue the voyage.
