Singapore Orders Caning for Graffiti Vandal

A Swiss man has been sentenced to five months in jail and three lashes of a cane for spray-painting graffiti on the side of a train in Singapore. In today's ruling, the judge called the incident a serious breach of security. Reuters points out the island has a low tolerance for petty crime: "Singapore outlaws chewing gum and has strict fines for littering and a mandatory death sentence for drug peddling. The crime rate ... is among the lowest in the world."

Video posted to YouTube shows the graffiti on the day it was painted.
