AZ Senate Candidate Pitches Free Money in 2007 Infomercial

A 2007 infomercial uploaded to YouTube on Sunday shows J.D. Hayworth, a Republican candidate for the US Senate, pitching a seminar that promised to explain, for a fee reportedly of up to $1,200, how to get "free money" from the federal government. Hayworth is challenging Sen. John McCain in the GOP's August primary race.

The clip was described on the Arizona Republic political blog, AZ/DC:

"Hayworth ... helped convince viewers that they could rake in big bucks by attending seminars that would teach them how to apply for federal grants that they wouldn't have to pay back. National Grants Conferences, the Florida-based company that hosted the classes and produced the informercial, has faced criticism from multiple state attorneys general and Better Business Bureaus."

Synopsis: Hayworth first appears at 1:48 in the clip.

Franken denies Lieberman "additional moment" in Senate discussions on health care

Sure, Senate hearings can be slow and maybe a little dull - but not all the time. CSPAN caught this exchange between Senators Franken and Lieberman during a Senate session on health care yesterday. Senator Franken denies Senator Lieberman an "additional moment" to finish his remarks.

TMPtv has a longer version of the incident that includes Senator John McCain expressing his frank disapproval of Senator Franken's behavior.

McCain YouTube Contest: Calling All Average Joes

It now looks like Joe the Plumber, the now-famous Ohio resident who challenged Senator Obama on his tax plan and was catapulted onto the national stage during last week's presidential debate when both candidates referenced him a combined 26 times, will remain in the spotlight just a little bit longer.

This morning the McCain campaign launched an, "I'm Joe the Plumber" video contest. The contest asks McCain-Palin supporters to create 30 second videos about how they are like Joe the Plumber, by sharing their stories of, "living the American Dream, working hard, or owning a small business." The campaign will run the winning video as a television ad.

A recent Suffolk University poll shows that the "Joe the Plumber" storyline isn't resonating as strongly with voters as the McCain campaign might hope. Perhaps this contest will help citizens identify more with Joe, or help the campaign find a symbol that the American public finds more relatable.

Susie the Nurse, are you out there? Your chance at fame is just an upload away.

McCain Cribs Exclusive: We like to roll in style

Whoever said John McCain wasn't in touch with young folks clearly hasn't seen the latest video from his campaign, "McCain Cribs Exclusive: The Straight-Talk Express." A play off of the wildly popular television show MTV Cribs, which offers guided journeys through the sprawling mansions of the rich and famous, this video tour of McCain's campaign bus gives voters a behind-the-scenes look at the Senator's pimped-out ride. Davis White, McCain's Director of Advance, explains the bus's role in the campaign, while pointing out the vehicle's flyest amenities -- including the 36" inch flat screen TV and 22" inch rims.

It's clear that Justin Germany, the McCain team's video guru, did his research when putting this one together. From the bass-heavy hip-hop beats used in the intro title sequence to the camera angles and video editing techniques, the "McCain Cribs Exclusive" has the same look-and-feel of the real MTV cribs episodes that feature the bed and baths of stars like 50 cent and Snoop Dogg.

"When we roll into town," White explains in the video, "we like to roll in style."
